Sundays in Tamale

This blog was written by Amanda and Colleen

Sundays in Ghana are very relaxing for everyone. The past few days we learned about Ghanaian time, which means that 10 am is really 11 am. That is when we got picked up to go to the Methodist Church. The service was longer than what we are used to at home. The differences were seen in everything from the collection baskets to the homily.

Later in the afternoon we went to a public pool to cool off. The pool was fun and we taught some locals how to swim. We met up with the dancers and musicians from the village ceremony from the previus night. It was great to hangout with some local friends. The downtime that we had today gave us a great opportunity to talk with Ghanaians. It was a much appreciated Sunday in Tamale.

I had to catch up on the blogs, wow, it seems like a culture shock between the north and the south and I would not have honestly guessed that the people still lived such a traditional way of life...its amazing that you all have the opportunity to witness it first hand, the overwhelming majority of us will never have the experience...and you all are making it look so easy, you're all so upbeat, keep it up, you're great Marist representatives....boy I would love to sit with the kids and let them tell me what questions they have....hopefully some of them will have your opportunity, a chance to visit our communities...peace out....
